Best way to wash your car and make it shiny

Good: The Autostolz premium SiO2 wash and Enhanced Ceramic Spray wax are amazing products, they are super easy to use, just wash like normal with the car wash and spray and buff as you dry with the enhanced ceramic spray wax.

Better: get set up to wash without scratching like a pro with our "I just want to clean my car and make it look shiny - Michelle kit". You get a decent clear bucket and a mitt slide to allow you to wash your mitt as you dip it in the bucket to reduce the chance of scratches. And you get a quality fireball 70:30 wash pad to safely wash without scratching and our favourite and super popular rockcar performer drying towel. Plus you get a free Rockcar Pegasus super soft microfiber cloth. This is an amazing kit at a great price to encourage you to up your game!

Best: add a second bucket and dirt trap to have a 2 bucket set up like a pro. Use the mitt slide in your rinse bucket and the flat dirt and grit guard in the bottom of your wash bucket.

Optional: Add a second performer drying towel if you plan to wash more than one car at the same time.

Add a Foam Cannon to Prewash - Make washing easier, faster and lower scratch risk by adding a pre wash set up.

Pre-washing doesn’t remove everything, but it makes the wash much easier and faster and reduces your risk of scratching the paint.

Foam the car while it is dry and dirty, let the foam soak for a few minutes, then rinse it off.

If you already have a foam cannon, grab a bottle of the Autostolz Snow Foam. It is the highest foaming, longest dwell time, and most lubricating snow foam in our testing. It smells great too.

If you need a foam cannon for your water blaster, go for the Best Foam Cannon Kit (clear bottle, black top) and choose the adapter to suit your water blaster from the pull-down menu.

If you want something for a normal garden hose, the Rockcar Foam Blaster Kit (white bottle, red top) connects directly to a standard garden hose. You won't get the thick shaving-cream style foam that you get with the Rockcar Stealth and a pressure washer — it will be more like bubble-bath foam — but it still works well and is quick and easy to use as a pre-wash without needing a water blaster.

If you want to step it up, Adam has put together his Foam Cannon setup with the Twin Shooter so you can flick between foam and rinsing, the high-pressure trigger upgrade, and the flexible gravity pipe. Is it over the top? Sure. But it’s very cool — and it makes the job easy and fun.

Add a protection and shine with a wax sealant or ceramic coating at home

If you want to add a ceramic coating at home these are the ones we recommend. First wash with a wax stripping soap and then clay the Vehicle and wipe down with fireball reborn to ensure you get a good bond to the surface. Then choose between:

Autostolz enhanced cream wax: Very easy and great shine, it's hard to beat the shine of a good carnauba wax, natural wax is enhanced with polymers to last typically 9-12 months and deliver high resistance to alkaline car washes. This is a low-risk products, and can be removed if needed, a true sacrificial layer. 1 bottle will do many cars. Made in Germany,

Fireball Flash: Super easy, super-fast, and wow. The hydrophobics on this are amazing. It will last up to 1 year, at which point simply repeat and reapply. Its a big bottle that will do couple of cars. The latest ceramic coating technology from Fireball who make the most advanced ceramic coatings in the world.

Fireball Angel Tears: will last longer, typically 1-2 years, it applies like a traditional coating, super easy though not as quick and easy as flash. Very impressive ceramic coating. Not as hydrophobic as flash but pretty close and ads amazing shine.

If you want to step it up: Fireball have a small batch of handmade high end paste waxes. These are not cheap, not for everyone, the founder and head chemist of Fireball makes these himself by hand in very small batches with the highest quality ingredients and most advanced technology. This is for a very special car.

Tyre and trim shine

We did a durability test through autumn and Winter over 2025, Fireball and Solution Finish kicked everything to touch by miles, so we have discontinued a lot of the trim and tyre products we have as well, they just didn't measure up. If you can't find your old favourite anymore it's time to step up, you will be impressed. they all looked about the same for the first few weeks, but then when the others faded these stayed strong.

For normal trim and tyres Fireball is the best option, its super easy, really natural looking and not all sticky and nasty. It has a really high SiO2 content which makes it super long lasting and it's just really nice to use. Choose between satin, gloss, Janus (a very nice gloss with pearl effect look, or the new Showcar which is the shiniest. They are all good, its personal preference the level of shine

For really faded trim, Solution Finish is the go. This is a proper restorer. Wear gloves, watch the video from the crazy founder who looks like he's a rock star (cool dude, that's how he looks when you meet him in real life). Solution finish black is the best for black and dark grey. The Grey version is very light grey, so unless your plastic is really light grey go the Black. This isn't a trim shine, it's a proper restorer with ground up carbon. Once restored maintain with fireball for a better shine.

A little thing but makes the job easy is the Rockcar wave applicator. The pattern pushes products into gaps and between bumps of tyre lettering and the 2 foams help stop product soaking through keeping your fingers clean.

Best Wheel Cleaning Kits

We have a lot of wheel cleaners, some noticeably better than others.

The Strongest and what we use ourselves is the Autostolz Wheel Cleaner. Its strong alkaline, which means you can't use it on bare metal., but on OEM/painted/clear coated wheels it's amazing at making the job fast and easy.

The safest wheel cleaner is Fireball Wheel & Tyre. It's a good cleaner but not super strong, you will need to rub a bit more but if your wheels are bare metal or other delicate material you don't want to risk this is your best safest option and a high-quality products.

If you get a lot of brake dust, consider adding Autostolz Brake dust and Iron remover. Brake dust is fine iron from wear on your brake pads. This isn't a wheel cleaner but a chemical that reacts with that iron breaking its bond to you can more easily remove it, changing colour as it does. It smells like Rotorua, but it works. We have a few iron removers, Autostolz is the most effective in our testing. Dragons Breath is also good.

We don't sell wheel acids; over time they can damage your wheels. We don't want that on our conscience.

The trick to cleaning wheels fast and easily is to have a range of brushes. We recommend a wheel barrel brush to clean the gaps and right through to clan all the wheel barrel. A soft flat split end brush for the fase of the wheel. A short stiff low-profile brush for the tyres to really scrub them easily and fast, and a small boar hair detail brush to clean around the wheel nuts and the otherwise hard to get to corner bits. If your wasting time cleaning wheels you probably don't have enough wheel brushes.

If you want to make your wheels easier to clean, apply one of the protection products listed above like one of the Autostolz waxes or a Fireball Ceramic.

Bug, Tar and other specific things

Most manufacturers make one products for "bug & tar", but bugs and tar are very different. Targeting products work far better.

Best for Bugs: Fireball bug cleaner expands and softens the protein of the bug carcase, making it easy to remove and reducing scratch risk. Not effecting on much else, but on bugs very, very good.

Best for Tar: Fireball Tar remover, it's impressive, you start spraying and you see the tar already start to run off. Again targeted not effective on bugs.

Best for Glue: Fireball Tar remover in our testing and customer feedback outperformed all glue removers. Even on interior glue like residue glue that was holding carpet down.

The kit has the best options

Best to remove water spots

If water spots are on the surface, the best water spot remover kit will remove them nearly all of the time and is super quick and easy. If that doesn't work a light one step polish will. Try the water spot remover first as its quicker. The Chemical Guys water spot remover works very well, the Fireball is lighter, faster and less aggressive but we find in NZ it doesn't often have enough grunt. Grab the kit, there's a video in its description Adam did showing you how to do it.

Remove scratches and swirls and other paint deffects.

In most cases a one step polish is all you need, the Autosotlz one step polish is amazing, and the Rocckar polishing machines make the job so much easier. The Rockcar 12 is a good machine but if you can make it work the Rockcar 15 is a lot better and nicer to work with, it gets the job done faster too with more3 power and a higher throw.

If it's really bad go for a 2 step polish

You don't have to use a machine, (though it does make it a lot faster and easier). Here's a good hand polishing kit.

If you just want to hide light scratches our easy shine kit won't fix them, but its easy and will help to hide them.

When polishing by machine after about 1/4 of a car the pads will be clogged and hot. To get a better result, get the job done faster and easier, and to make your pads last (a lot) longer, swap pads after about 1/4 of a car, using 4 pads or more per car. And wash your pads the same day so polsih doesnt dry inside the foam and make hard spots. dry them either like a plate in a dish rack, or on a clean surface velcro up so the water can run out (otherwise it sits on the glue holding the velcro and can cause this to fail prematurely.

Best Products for Car Leather, Alcantara, Suede, Vegan Leather, Vinyl, Interior Plastic

Best for:

Natural and Nappa leather: Best Lether Kit

Vegan Leather, MB-Tex: Best Lether Kit

Alcantara and Sude: Alcantara ans Suede Cleaning Kit

Vinyl and Interior Plastic, either the Best Interior kit for Plastic Vinyl and Rubber, or the Best Leather kit which works really well to clean and condition plastic and vinyl as well, and with its natural ingredients helps to nourish plastic and vinyl as well.

Best Air Fragrances and Deodorizers for Cars

If you have a bad smell like split milk, food, vomit, Valet Pro Enzyme Odour eater is the fix, its very unique and specialist, it has enzymes that compete with the bacteria for food and starve them off killing the bacteria that cause most odours. Its a proper fix for bad organic smells.

If you want your car to smell nice and fresh, Fireball have a new range of car fragrnaces that are really nice. These are not your average fragrances, we relaly like them. They are in 500ml bottles but include a small empty 100ml spray bottle to put a small among on to leave in the car which is a great idea.

Very popular and very polarising is Chemical Guys new car scent. This is like the coriander of car fragrances, most people love it but some hate it, the reviews are crazy they are either 5 stars or one star. Only one way to see if you like it is to give it a go!

This combination gives excellent gloss, protection and water beading while keeping the wash process simple and safe. It was literally made from Adam at lovecars for his wife Michelle to get started with the best products and to make it easy.

What are the best car detailing products in New Zealand right now?

From our testing and experience, some of the best-performing car detailing products right now include Autostolz Premium SiO₂ Auto Wash paired with Autostolz Enhanced Ceramic Spray Wax, which together create a very easy wash routine that adds impressive gloss and strong water beading.

For pre-washing, Autostolz Snow Foam produces thick foam and excellent lubrication, helping loosen dirt before the contact wash and reducing the risk of wash scratches.

To dry the car safely, the Rockcar Performer Drying Towel absorbs a large amount of water quickly while remaining soft on paint.

If you're using a pressure washer, the Rockcar Stealth Foam Cannon (Blackout Edition) produces thick, even foam and is one of the easiest ways to apply snow foam properly.

For longer-term paint protection, Fireball Angel Tears Ceramic Coating is an excellent option that adds durable gloss, slickness, and strong hydrophobic performance.

What is the easiest way to wash a car and still get great shine?
