Car Wash Buckets & Dirt Traps
The easiest way to tell a professional car detailer from a beginner when you watch them washing a car is to see how many buckets they use, and if they have a grit and dirt trap or mitt slide in the bottom of their car wash buckets.
It's so simple, but makes such a big difference. The reality is most scratches on your car come from washing your car! As you wash your car you are removing dirt from the surface, this ends up on your wash mitt, and then goes into the wash water. Without grit and dirt trap or mitt slide, that dirt and grit ends up swirled up ion your wash water, and back onto your wash mitt, where you rub it across the surface of your car scratching.
If you do one thing to improve your car detailing and car washing it is to address this:
- Use 2 buckets, one with clear water, one with soap, rinse your mitt in the water, wring it then put it into your car wash soap bucket.
- Have either grit and dirt traps or mitt slides in the bottom of your wash buckets to keep the dirt and grit at the bottom.
- If you want to step your game up more, get a dedicated wheel bucket as well, again with a grit and dirt trap or mitt slide.
