It’s tempting to leave the wheels until last, but that’s how brake dust ends up back on clean paint. Pros wash the wheels first, then get rid of that water before moving on to the rest of the car. Tyre and trim shine can wait until the end.
We’ve just released our latest detailing guide, and this one's all about pre-washing. What it is, why it matters, and how it fits into a proper car wash routine. You might think adding a pre-wash step will take more time, but done right a prewash actually saves time while giving you better results.
The trick is to be targeted. Bugs and tar are very different, and while some products try to do both, they are never as effective as using the right product for the job. A bug cleaner works by breaking down the proteins in bug splatter so it can be removed more easily and safely. That is all it does, but it does it very well. A tar remover works differently. You will often see the tar start to run and melt away in front of your eyes, but it will not do much for bugs. Use the right product for the job and you'll get it done faster, easier and safer!
Most scratches on cars come from poor wash technique. With the right products and technique, you can wash your car fast with amazing results.
Claying your car is a bit like exfoliating paint. Paint is porous, so over time it fills up with dirt and grit you cannot see. That contamination makes the surface rough and stops products like waxes and ceramic coatings from bonding properly. Claying removes that buildup, leaving the paint smooth and properly prepped. It is quick, easy, and really satisfying to do. So how do you clay a car, and what do you actually need?
If your clear coat has scratches, is oxidized, or just looks tired, machine polishing can bring it back. By carefully removing a very small layer of clear coat, you expose fresh, smooth paint underneath that looks like new again. With the right gear and a few simple rules, it is far easier than most people think.
