Polishes and Compounds

If you have scratches or swirl marks or faded paint or clearcoat on your car, polishes will remove the very top scratched or oxidized layer bringing you back to fresh, bright unscratched clearcoat or single stage paint.

Polishes are abrasive, they are removing the very fine top layer of the clear coat or other surface on your car.

But which polish is right for you?

Traditionally polishes had different levels of aggression through the size of the particles, a bit like sandpaper.  You could tell how aggressive they were by rubbing them in your fingers, the more aggressive polishes were quite coarse and had large particles in them to remove more faster, these would however leave marks behind that you could see with the human eye, so you would need to go over with a finer polish that had smaller particles in it to remove the fine marks left behind from the coarser more aggressive polish. The finer finish polishes wouldn't remove much, and the heavy cut polishes would leave marks from the larger particles behind, so polish manufacturers started making systems of 2 step, 3 step, even 4 step.  This was great for polish manufacturers as it meant the sold a lot more polish, but it meant you had to do everything 2, 3 or 4 times, and you removed more clearcoat.

The new Autostolz polishes are quite different, and a real game changed, from obscurity they have become our top selling polishes, and prove quite addictive, they take a little bit to get used to, but the results are impressive.  

The Autostolz One Step Polish takes out 2,000 grit sand paper marks and finishes like a mirror, it is impressive, what normally would be a 2 step you can get done quickly in a 1 step, and the sine is amazing.  Its by far our top selling polish.  Instead of having large particles that leave marks behind, Autostolz have very fine tiny particles that finish smooth, you rub it between your fingers and you wonder how it will cut anything, if feels like body lotion, and then it grabs.  The particles are tiny, but they are diamond hard, and super abrasive.  

Autostolz have also released a new 2 step option of a heavy cut and final finish, which are also very impressive.  We have some professional detailers finding they can get amazing results with the Heavy Cut as a one step!  This requires some skill, normally you would need to go over with the final finish.

The Chemical Guys V line of polishes is a flexible range for a 1, 2 3 or 4 step polish.  Normally you would either use the V36 as a one step, or the V32 followed by the V38.  But there is flexibility here, and their videos will change around what they recommend.  here is a quick Guide to the Chemical Guys V Line of polishes in order of aggression and particle size: 

Most aggressive: V32, next step down, V34, Medium can get away with a 1 step V36, Finishing V38 finest.

Chemical Guys C4 and P4 are a 2-step system for a simplified range, C4 it their first step cutting compound, which you then follow with their finer P4 polish
