Tyre shine works best if the tyres are scrubbed first so the products can properly soak into the rubber. This is especially important if you have had silicone products on the tyres before, as the new product will not be able to soak through. If your tyre shine is not lasting, this is probably why.
The longest lasting tyre shines we like are made by Fireball which contain higher levels of SiO2. They come in different levels of shine and can also be used on exterior plastic trim. Which level of shine you choose is personal preference - some like shiny others more a matt look.
Oil based products like Chemical Guys Forever Black tyre Gel and Extreme Shine last a long time as well but can be prone to slinging and dust sticking to them when first applied as they are oil based.
Water based trim products like VRP are not recommended for wheels and exterior trim in New Zealand or Australia as while they look good and natural, they are water soluble and do not resist wet weather very well. They are more suited for a show car or classic car that is only taken out on dry days.
Our favorite applicator is the Rockcar Wave as its pattern pushes product into the grooves and bumps of a tyre, and the use of 2 foams in the applicator reduces the soaking of product and results in less sticky fingers! Pro tip: Don't just go round and round, but also apply in to out to get product into all the grooves on the tyre.
