The Right Chemistry for Every Wheel Cleaning Job

Properly clean wheels require two separate steps — and two separate chemistries. Grime, grease, and tyre browning need a powerful alkaline cleaner. Embedded iron contamination from brake dust needs a dedicated iron remover. Combining them into one product means compromising both. This kit gives you the correct formula for each job, in professional-grade formulations trusted by detailers.

What's Included

  • Autostolz Wheel Cleaner — Powerful Alkaline 500ml
  • Autostolz Brake Dust & Iron Remover 500ml

Autostolz Wheel Cleaner — Powerful Alkaline

A pH 13 alkaline formula that cuts through the contaminants a standard wheel cleaner leaves behind — brake dust, road grime, tyre browning, old tyre dressings, silicones, wax, grease, and polymer residues. The formula is optimised to spray on as a foam that clings to the wheel and tyre surface, giving the chemistry time to work before you rinse rather than running straight off. The result is faster, more effective cleaning with less effort.

Suitable for clear-coated and powder-coated wheels. Not suitable for bare or uncoated metal, or uncoated aluminium wheels such as Alcoa truck wheels. pH 13 is a strong alkaline — wear safety glasses and gloves.

Autostolz Brake Dust & Iron Remover

Every time you brake, friction between the brake pads and disc generates fine iron particles — brake dust. These land hot on your wheels and bond to the surface. Left untreated, they begin to rust and etch into the wheel, causing corrosion that can only be corrected by machine polishing. Regular decontamination prevents this.

The Autostolz Iron Remover targets these particles chemically, reacting specifically with ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) to encapsulate and dissolve them so they rinse away cleanly. As it works, the formula turns purple/red — a visual confirmation that iron is present and being removed, commonly called "bleeding."

Unlike most iron removers which use industrial-grade chemicals, Autostolz uses cosmetic-grade raw materials for a purer formula. The characteristic sulfur-like odour is still present — it's inherent to the chemistry — but noticeably less sharp than most competing products, making it more pleasant to work with.

How to Use This Kit

  1. Ensure wheels are cool to the touch and out of direct sunlight (below 30°C / 86°F).
  2. Spray the Iron Remover evenly over the wheel. Watch for the purple/red colour change. Do not allow to dry. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Spray the Wheel Cleaner evenly over the wheel and tyre. Allow to dwell. Rinse with high-pressure water. Agitate with brushes for heavier soiling if needed.
  4. Repeat either step as needed for heavily contaminated wheels.
  5. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Why Not Just Use One Product?

Iron removers work through a specific chemical reaction with ferrous iron — they are not designed to clean dirt and grime. Wheel cleaners break down greasy, organic residues — they do not dissolve bonded iron particles. Products that attempt to combine both chemistries in one bottle typically compromise the effectiveness of each. Using targeted products in sequence gives you complete results that a combined formula cannot match.

Suitable for: Clear-coated and powder-coated alloy wheels, painted surfaces, surrounding bodywork. Not suitable for: Bare or uncoated metal, uncoated aluminium wheels (e.g. Alcoa truck wheels).
