Why matte needs its own products

Matte paint looks the way it does because the surface is intentionally textured at a microscopic level, causing light to scatter rather than reflect cleanly. That scattered light creates the flat, sophisticated finish matte is known for — and it's exactly what you need to protect.

Most car care products are designed to do the opposite. Gloss enhancers, shine additives, waxes, and polish all work to smooth and brighten surfaces. On a matte finish, used regularly, they gradually alter that surface texture — creating uneven, faded, patchy areas that can't be polished back. By the time you notice it, it's usually too late.

The products in this kit contain none of that. Every formula is pH-neutral, free of gloss enhancers and shine additives, and engineered specifically to clean matte surfaces without touching what makes them matte.

What's in the kit

🔵 Autostolz Matte Snow Foam 500ml — Your pre-wash. Apply with a foam cannon or foam gun before you touch the car. Dense, cling foam dwells on the surface and loosens contamination so it rinses away rather than gets dragged across your paint. Reduces scratch risk before the contact wash even begins. Optional but genuinely worthwhile.

🔵 Autostolz Matte Auto Wash 500ml — Your contact wash. pH-neutral, high lubrication, matte-safe formula for routine washing in a bucket, foam gun, or foam cannon. No gloss enhancers, no dyes, no residue. Cleans your matte finish and leaves it exactly as it should be.

🟢 Autostolz Matte Quick Detailer 500ml — Your between-wash solution and on-the-go safety net. Safely removes dust, fingerprints, water spots, and light contamination without adding any shine. Keep this bottle and the Pegasus Cloth in your car — if a bird gets your paint while you're out, you can deal with it safely on the spot.

🍷 Rockcar Pegasus Microfibre Cloth 480gsm — included— The cloth we made for ourselves and loved too much to keep to ourselves. Exceptionally soft, fully edgeless, 480gsm, and colour matched to Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir — a deep burgundy made exclusively for LoveCars and produced for no other retailer worldwide. Ideal for use with the Quick Detailer, and gentle enough for the most delicate matte surfaces. 

Your complete matte wash routine

Used together, these three products give you a proper, complete approach to matte care:

Step 1 — Pre-wash: Foam the car with Matte Snow Foam. Allow 5 minutes dwell. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 2 — Contact wash: Wash with Matte Auto Wash using a soft wash mitt and two-bucket method. Rinse and dry with a deep soft microfibre.

Step 3 — On the go: Keep the Matte Quick Detailer and Pegasus Cloth in the car for safe spot cleaning anytime.

A note on wash technique

The right products are half the story — technique matters too. A soft wash mitt, two buckets with grit guards, washing in straight lines rather than circles, and drying with a deep-pile microfibre all reduce the risk of fine scratches that are harder to address on matte than on gloss.
