If your car has a ceramic or graphene coating — your car wash matters more than you think.

You've invested in a coating because you want exceptional gloss, deep shine, and that satisfying water beading behaviour where water sheets and rolls off the paint cleanly. The coating is doing that work. But what sits on top of the coating matters — and most car wash products are quietly working against you.

The problem with most car wash soaps on coated vehicles

Walk into any detailing store and the shelves are full of car wash soaps that promise to boost shine, add gloss, or enhance water beading. Many contain SiO2 — also marketed as ceramic boost, hydrophobic booster, or gloss enhancer. On an uncoated car that can make sense. On a coated car, it's a problem.

When you add wax, sealant, or SiO2 toppers to a coated surface, those products become the outer layer that water lands on and light bounces off. Over time that layer accumulates, dulls, and degrades — and as it does, it changes the gloss, the shine, and the hydrophobic properties of your coating. The water beading you paid for starts to look different. The depth of gloss you loved starts to look flatter. You're not seeing your coating anymore — you're seeing a build-up of wash products sitting on top of it.

The same applies to graphene coatings. The chemistry is different but the sensitivity to wax and sealant build-up is the same — using the wrong wash product gradually compromises what your graphene coating is doing.

The fix isn't more product. It's the right product.

What Coated Auto Wash does

Autostolz Coated Auto Wash is a pH-neutral cleaning system engineered specifically for ceramic and graphene coated vehicles. It uses advanced multi-surfactant technology to gently and effectively remove road film, oils, mineral deposits, and accumulated contamination from the coating surface — without leaving anything behind that would alter how the coating looks or performs.

No waxes. No sealants. No SiO2 additives. No gloss enhancers. No residue. It cleans the coating and gets out of the way — letting the coating perform exactly as it was designed to.

Mineral deposits and accumulated contamination are one of the main reasons hydrophobic performance degrades over time on coated vehicles. Regular washing with Coated Auto Wash helps remove that build-up and restore the water beading and gloss the coating was delivering when it was fresh — provided the coating itself is still in good condition. It won't reverse a coating that has genuinely worn through, but it will keep a healthy coating performing at its best for longer.

High lubrication reduces scratch risk during the contact wash, and stable foam ensures full surface coverage with good dwell time. Works in a foam cannon, foam gun, or bucket wash.

One thing Coated Auto Wash won't do

It's worth being clear about iron contamination. Brake dust and industrial fallout embed in and on coated surfaces over time and are a significant cause of reduced coating performance — but removing iron fallout requires a dedicated iron remover, not a car wash. Coated Auto Wash handles organic contamination and mineral deposits exceptionally well, but for periodic deep decontamination you'll want to add an iron remover to your routine. If you're unsure what to use, get in touch and we can point you in the right direction.

How often to wash

For coated vehicles we recommend washing every two to four weeks with Coated Auto Wash. Regular washing prevents contamination from accumulating to the point where it noticeably suppresses coating performance — and it's far easier to maintain a clean coated surface than to restore one that's been neglected.

Pair it with the right pre-wash

For the best results and the lowest scratch risk, pre-wash with Autostolz Snow Foam before the contact wash. Like Coated Auto Wash, the Snow Foam is formulated to leave nothing behind — no additives, no toppers, nothing that will alter your coating. Together they give you a complete coating-safe wash routine that cleans thoroughly without compromising what your coating is doing.

The pre-wash step loosens and removes the bulk of contamination before you touch the car, which means less work for the contact wash and meaningfully lower scratch risk overall.

A note on coating maintenance

A ceramic or graphene coating is a long-term investment. How you wash the car is one of the most important factors in how well that investment holds up. Using the wrong products — even ones that seem harmless or beneficial — gradually changes the surface you're washing and diminishes what the coating delivers.

Coated Auto Wash is designed to be your routine maintenance wash for the life of the coating. Simple, safe, and effective — and it lets your coating do its job.

500ml — with 5L coming soon

The 500ml is available now. A 5L refill size will be available shortly for those going through it regularly or maintaining multiple coated vehicles.

Directions

Shake well before use. Add 30–90ml per 17L bucket or 1L foam cannon (1–3 oz per 5-gallon bucket or standard 34oz foam cannon). Wash in straight lines using a soft wash mitt. Allow the soap a few minutes to loosen contamination before rinsing. Do not allow soap to dry on the surface. Use on cool surfaces only — surface temperature should not exceed 30°C (86°F). Avoid direct sunlight. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first. Do not allow to freeze.

Recommended wash frequency: every two to four weeks for coated vehicles.
