Rockcar Clay Mitt — Microfiber Decontamination Glove
Why decontamination matters
Washing removes loose dirt, but bonded contamination — iron particles from brake dust and rail fallout, tar, oxidation, and industrial deposits — embeds into your clear coat and cannot be removed by soap and water alone. Left in place, this contamination causes dull paint, prevents wax and sealant from bonding correctly, and accelerates paint deterioration. Claying removes this layer and restores a smooth, clean surface before you polish, seal, or apply a ceramic coat.
What the Rockcar Clay Mitt does
The mitt uses a dual-layer construction: a light grey microfiber mesh backing for comfort and grip, and a dark grey polymer synthetic clay working surface that contacts the paint. The mesh pattern on the working surface is designed to channel contaminants away from the paint and draw them into the material rather than dragging them across the surface. This significantly reduces the risk of marring compared with traditional flat clay products.
Because the mitt covers a larger surface area per pass than a clay bar, a full vehicle decontamination takes just 5–15 minutes. It is reusable for 100–120 vehicles — rinse thoroughly under running water between sections and between vehicles to clear trapped contaminants before continuing.
A recessed internal hook allows you to hang the mitt for storage. The hook sits inside the mitt and does not contact the working surface, so there is no scratch risk during use.
⚠️ Always use lubricant — this is essential, not optional
Never use this mitt on a dry surface. Always apply a generous amount of clay lubricant, detail spray, or waterless wash to the panel before and during use. Because the mitt works quickly, it is easy to keep moving after the lubricant has thinned out without noticing — this is when marring occurs. If you feel any resistance or drag at any point, stop immediately, reapply lubricant, and rinse the mitt under running water before continuing. The faster you work, the more attentive you need to be about lubricant coverage.
⚠️ Do not use on hot surfaces
Always work in shade or wait for panels to cool before claying. Using the mitt on a surface that is warm or hot to the touch risks damage to both the paint and the mitt.
Clay mitt or clay bar — which is right for you?
Rockcar Clay Mitt — choose this if:
- You want a fast full-vehicle decontamination (5–15 minutes)
- Your vehicle is regularly maintained and contamination is not severe
- You are claying multiple vehicles and speed matters
- You want a reusable tool that lasts 100–120 vehicles
- You are preparing for a polish, sealant, or ceramic coat application
Rockcar Medium or Heavy Clay Bar — choose this if:
- Your vehicle has heavy or long-standing contamination
- You are dealing with severe industrial fallout or paint overspray
- Thoroughness is more important to you than speed
- You want the most complete decontamination result possible
Not sure? If your vehicle is regularly maintained and you want a fast, effective clean before polishing or sealing, the Clay Mitt is ideal. If your vehicle has heavy contamination, has not been clayed in a long time, or you want the most thorough result possible, choose the Rockcar Medium or Heavy Clay Bar instead.
Surfaces
Safe to use on paint, glass, and wheels. Do not use on matte or satin finishes.
How to use
- Wash the vehicle thoroughly first to remove all loose dirt, sand, and dust.
- Soak the mitt in water and keep it wet throughout.
- Spray clay lubricant generously onto a small section of the panel.
- Work the polymer clay side of the mitt across the surface using light, overlapping passes. Apply no downward pressure — the weight of your hand is enough.
- Keep lubricant applied at all times. If you feel any drag or resistance, stop and reapply immediately.
- Rinse the mitt under running water regularly to clear trapped contaminants from the surface.
- Wash the vehicle again after claying to remove any residue.
- Follow with a machine polish, paint sealant, or ceramic coat for best results.

Key Points:
- Fast full-vehicle decontamination in 5–15 minutes — larger surface area covers more paint per pass than a traditional clay bar, making it ideal for regular maintenance claying or high-volume detailing.
- Contaminant-trapping mesh surface — high-density polymer synthetic clay channels iron fallout, tar, oxidation, and rail dust into the material rather than across the paint, significantly reducing scratch and marring risk.
- Reusable — 100 to 120 vehicles — rinse under running water between uses to clear trapped contaminants. Internal recessed hook for storage; hook does not contact the working surface.
- Safe on paint, glass, and wheels — dual-layer construction: light grey microfiber mesh backing, dark grey polymer synthetic clay working surface. Size: 22 × 14.5 cm. Not for matte or satin finishes.
- Lubricant is essential — never use dry — always apply clay lubricant, detail spray, or waterless wash generously and reapply often. Speed means staying attentive; stop immediately if you feel any drag.
- For maximum decontamination, choose a clay bar instead — the Clay Mitt is built for speed and regular maintenance. For heavily contaminated vehicles or the most thorough result, use the Rockcar Medium or Heavy Clay Bar.
