How to Use Car Air Fresheners Properly (Most People Don’t)

Step 1: Remove the source

Check under seats, in cup holders, door pockets, and the boot. Any damp, mouldy, or forgotten items will continue to produce odour.

Step 2: Vacuum thoroughly

Bad smells settle into carpets and seats. Vacuum mats, floors, seats, and crevices where crumbs and moisture collect.

Step 3: Apply lightly

Less is more. Lightly mist 2–3 sprays into footwells, under seats, or onto carpets. Avoid soaking fabric — subtle application lasts longer and smells better.

Step 4: Freshen the A/C system

Stale smells often come from the ventilation system.
Turn the A/C on full, set it to recirculate, spray into the recirculation intake (usually near the footwell), and let it run for a few minutes. This helps flush stale odours through the vents rather than leaving them trapped inside.
